Can you put blonde hair dye on top of highlights?

I have just recently got my hair highlighted and it has turned out a sort of orange blonde and thats not what i was aming for, I am natually a dark brown. This is the second full head of highlights I have got and the colour is still awfull. Is it ok for me to put a home blonde hair dye over it as i can not afford the hairdresser!!Can you put blonde hair dye on top of highlights?
First off....a full head of highlights? Hardly anyone gets full highlights anymore. Next time get just a partial, that will save you money %26amp; it looks more modern. Second...If your hair is very dark brown, it is more difficult to get to a very blonde stage without too much damage. If you recently had these highlights done you should contact your stylist and ask what she suggests. She knows your hair condition and may be able to guide you to a toner that will help with your highlights at home. Because just putting any old blonde box dye over the top most likely wont give you a very good result.
