I always loved multi-toned hair. Try using a carmel, with some medium browns, it could really pop, but still look kind of natural!

this summer, brown hair with blonde highlights is completely out. the new colours in are ash brown and chocolate brown.
bleach blonde highlights on brown hair just look stripey and the re-growth is atrocious.
I recommend not getting blonde highlights, unless you can afford to have them touched up every 3-4 weeks!

It is possible but you may need a professional... you said you had already dyed your hair and it's a dark brown now not black... that is the first step...next get a off the scalp powder bleach... use foils to pick out what hair you want to be the blonde streaks... use the powder bleach with a 40 vol. developer... leave it on for a good 30 minutes... rinse off and then you will have to apply a toner to the blonde streaks... the toner is going to get rid of any unnatural looking tones black hair get when trying to bleach it to a blonde level... you could a semi permanant color as a toner... toner needs to have a vioilet or blue base... a professional would understand what I described here... I want my blonde highlights back?
Hey guys, So recently i needed to dye my hair all brown which it naturally was from blonde highlights. I hate it tho, im very pale and the dark brownish color isnt doin anything for me now so now i want my blonde highlights back. I washed my hair like 45345 times with some shampoos and its slowy coming back but is there a faster way other then paying 100 or something to get them back?

I've been in this situation before! My hairdresser told me that to strip colour the only way without really damaging your hair is keep washing it. He suggested anti-dandruff shampoos such as Head and Shoulders because aparently they strip colour more easily. You can also buy something that strips the colour from hair but you usually end up with some weird undertones in it.
You'll get there in a couple of weeks with just washing.
Don't forget to condition because constantly washing it can strip the natural oils and sometimes make your hair dry or frizzy. Keep in mind, even after all the dark brown colour has been lost your highlights might have a sort of greenish tinge to them, so you may want to get more highlights done anyway.. or try a clarifying shampoo made specially for blondes. You can buy highlight kits to do them yourself, but I don't recommend it... if you do use one of these, please make highlights slightly smaller than you would like to stop it coming out in big stripey blocks like I've seen so many of my friends accidentally do. Perhaps try to raise funds to get them done in a salon instead.

I've been in this situation before! My hairdresser told me that to strip colour the only way without really damaging your hair is keep washing it. He suggested anti-dandruff shampoos such as Head and Shoulders because aparently they strip colour more easily. You can also buy something that strips the colour from hair but you usually end up with some weird undertones in it.
You'll get there in a couple of weeks with just washing.
Don't forget to condition because constantly washing it can strip the natural oils and sometimes make your hair dry or frizzy. Keep in mind, even after all the dark brown colour has been lost your highlights might have a sort of greenish tinge to them, so you may want to get more highlights done anyway.. or try a clarifying shampoo made specially for blondes. You can buy highlight kits to do them yourself, but I don't recommend it... if you do use one of these, please make highlights slightly smaller than you would like to stop it coming out in big stripey blocks like I've seen so many of my friends accidentally do. Perhaps try to raise funds to get them done in a salon instead.

That 5 minutes is just enough to keep the grey hairs toned in with the brown ones so should work for highlights.

I say this because with your hair being SO dark you may not come ';up'; to the palest stage and the stylist may need to use a toner to get the gold/yellow to not look brassy. In that case, some of the hilighted pieces will turn ashy. It's a tricky procedure. I hope you have a good stylist experianced in color and hilighting. Good luck

well highlights will make your hair look very light
lowlights will make your hair look a lot darker.
it depends on what look youre going for.
if you have dark eyes id say highlights
if you have light eyes id say lowlights,
it will help to bring pout the color.

that depends. If you're going to a swanky salon or spa it will probably get better results but with a price tag to match. If you do it at home* it will be cheaper, but you risk having bad highlights. Small barber shops will be in between.

Mix lemon Juice and vodka. Braid your hair in several sections and spray the mixture. It'll hilight your hair gradually and naturally. You can do this several times until you have the desired highlights you're looking for. Remember that this is a gradual process and won't have a drastic first outcome.
I would suggest trying red highlights as they will not damage your hair as much as trying to take your dark hair to blonde. I also have very dark hair and have had blonde hightlights. It took my completely healthy hair and made it feel like straw. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I would wait until you get your hair the length you want it before you highlight it, if you highlight it now you will have to get expensive touch ups a couple times before school starts. I would get it highlighted maybe the week before school starts. I'm growing mine out too!! :)violin

the same thing happened to me 3 years ago!! I looked like a skunk!! lol I just went back to the salon and got everything redone. but the highlights were done in a darker color than before so that if they did turn, it wouldnt be quite as ';white';. turned out great!

Can you put blonde hair dye on top of highlights?
I have just recently got my hair highlighted and it has turned out a sort of orange blonde and thats not what i was aming for, I am natually a dark brown. This is the second full head of highlights I have got and the colour is still awfull. Is it ok for me to put a home blonde hair dye over it as i can not afford the hairdresser!!Can you put blonde hair dye on top of highlights?
First off....a full head of highlights? Hardly anyone gets full highlights anymore. Next time get just a partial, that will save you money %26amp; it looks more modern. Second...If your hair is very dark brown, it is more difficult to get to a very blonde stage without too much damage. If you recently had these highlights done you should contact your stylist and ask what she suggests. She knows your hair condition and may be able to guide you to a toner that will help with your highlights at home. Because just putting any old blonde box dye over the top most likely wont give you a very good result.

If you dye it darker first it will mean Bleach to Hi-lite your hair and it will be harder to get a nice colour on them too - and more damaging. Get them done at the same time, Hi-lites go in first then put the darker colour on around the hi-lite packets. yes, but not by yourself, that would be disaster, just make sure all the dark has washed out before you highlight(it takes about 3 days after you color it for the water to finally be clear of dye when you wash it)
If you dye it dark first, then try to highlight parts, it might be difficult to lift the dark colour, so it may end up orangey and brassy. You'll also find that the highlighted parts will fade quicker. You'd be best getting the all over colour at the same time as the highlights. Alternitively you could get highlights and lowlights instead, to prevent a two-tone effect

If you're choosing a store bought color, choose a level 2 type color that you like. Follow the regular directions, except while you're waiting for the overall color to develop, add heat. Even putting a shower cap over your hair and using a hair dryer works.
Highlights a week after that (recommend you have those professionally done) are all good.

You could highlight ,but only slightly. Or add some red highlights.Also glazing is hot right now. It adds lots of shine which would be nice on dark brown hair.Look in fashion mags,for idea's other than highlights. Good luck.
The question isnt whether or not the rest of the town has highlights but if YOU want highlights. Dont let others influence your decision. Its YOUR hair on YOUR head. Do what you want! Oh and if the only way to keep your boyfriend is to do what everyone else is doing, especially something as superficial as highlighting your hair, you might want to re-evaluate who your dating.

If you want to dye your hair the thing to do is choose a color no more than two shades lighter or darker that yours- it will always suit you. That way your skin and everything won't totally clash with your new hair. Choose it carefully because the wrong one can make you look worse than you may think you already do.
If you want highlights (lighter streaks in the hiar) or lowlights (darker streaks) you can go up to four shades different with no consequences.
There are also different things you can do for different coloring types (like how long they last, etc...)

Be happy in the fact that you don't need highlights to look good. Start being more secure in your own looks and it will show through good. Your boyfriend shouldn't care what color hair you have. If he wants you to go get the blond highlights then dump him for being superficial.
add some cherry cola high lights. they have a red tone to a blonde high light. and why should highlighting your hair help you keep your boyfriend.....
I think you have a few choices, depending on your style. Are you looking for ';really different';, or a more subtle change? If subtle, I would try a glosser. You can go to a salon, but I think they have a few now in regular stores. You can also try a semi perminant dye, one without peroxide or other chemicals, that you can sort of play with, without all the damage of a regular dye.
You can also do subtle highlights at a salon I would suggest, maybe only a few on top. Have you thought of red? Depending on your color (skin) and eyes, red is really coming back in quickly... You can be the first. It also is a very sexy look, and maybe you wouldn't look the same as the rest of the crowd. You can do subtle on the red, maybe an auburn, or if you want more dramatic, go into the real reds. It all depends on you. I hope the suggestions help, and I commend you for wanting to not be ';one of the crowd';....

Glossy Dark Brown Hair, in cood condition, with a good cut, looks fab and no way dull. Get a shine spray to finnish it off. But, if you want highlights, like everyone else (isnt that dull, everyone the same) try a few copper highlights for a change.
maybe some carmel colored highlights or even a color glaze for shine

You can always use that new loreal colour that matches up with your natural hair colour. For something different you can always add some red highlights just around the face area. I've done this before and it looked awesome.

You could highlight ,but only slightly. Or add some red highlights.Also glazing is hot right now. It adds lots of shine which would be nice on dark brown hair.Look in fashion mags,for idea's other than highlights. Good luck.
The question isnt whether or not the rest of the town has highlights but if YOU want highlights. Dont let others influence your decision. Its YOUR hair on YOUR head. Do what you want! Oh and if the only way to keep your boyfriend is to do what everyone else is doing, especially something as superficial as highlighting your hair, you might want to re-evaluate who your dating.

If you want to dye your hair the thing to do is choose a color no more than two shades lighter or darker that yours- it will always suit you. That way your skin and everything won't totally clash with your new hair. Choose it carefully because the wrong one can make you look worse than you may think you already do.
If you want highlights (lighter streaks in the hiar) or lowlights (darker streaks) you can go up to four shades different with no consequences.
There are also different things you can do for different coloring types (like how long they last, etc...)

Be happy in the fact that you don't need highlights to look good. Start being more secure in your own looks and it will show through good. Your boyfriend shouldn't care what color hair you have. If he wants you to go get the blond highlights then dump him for being superficial.
add some cherry cola high lights. they have a red tone to a blonde high light. and why should highlighting your hair help you keep your boyfriend.....
I think you have a few choices, depending on your style. Are you looking for ';really different';, or a more subtle change? If subtle, I would try a glosser. You can go to a salon, but I think they have a few now in regular stores. You can also try a semi perminant dye, one without peroxide or other chemicals, that you can sort of play with, without all the damage of a regular dye.
You can also do subtle highlights at a salon I would suggest, maybe only a few on top. Have you thought of red? Depending on your color (skin) and eyes, red is really coming back in quickly... You can be the first. It also is a very sexy look, and maybe you wouldn't look the same as the rest of the crowd. You can do subtle on the red, maybe an auburn, or if you want more dramatic, go into the real reds. It all depends on you. I hope the suggestions help, and I commend you for wanting to not be ';one of the crowd';....
Individuals are much more sexy and saught after. Just ask a guy... :)
P.S. Regarding keeping your boyfriend, if you have to look for ways to ';keep'; him, from other girls, you probably don't need him. You sound too smart to be in that catagory....

Glossy Dark Brown Hair, in cood condition, with a good cut, looks fab and no way dull. Get a shine spray to finnish it off. But, if you want highlights, like everyone else (isnt that dull, everyone the same) try a few copper highlights for a change.

Section out parts of your hair...I don't know if you want thin highlights or thick, but anyway use foils. Brush the purple dye on the sectioned hair pieces, and cover with foil slices. Then mix up black hair dye and put that on the rest of your hair?

The most radical thing, anyone should do at home is a bleach and tone. That is where you put OIL beach over all the hair and die it one color Platinum and then you tone it.
Highlights are little ribbons of colour and the only way to achieve that properly is with foils.
I'm not sure of the kit you have, but as far as I know from many years of experience...Avon has never been in the Hair coloring business - they are a make- up and bubble bath company...
Never buy hair products from a company that has not been in the business for along time. Its a very tricky field.
This type of kit should be banned ....as in my opinion they are running false advertising ( banned in the USA).

If it is if you go to the back of the bottle the lable should be there maybe in foreign then just peel it back , maybe a few times till you get to the English. You will find it you might just have a struggle to peel the label back. I got some hot oil and Ithought it had no instrction until I wetted the bottle and peeled back the lable a little then I found the englis with the instructions.
It its a type of hair serum you put in your hair you bring out your highlights then you should just put it on damp or dry hair.
But if its a bleach or hair dye Avon dont do these I dont think and where did you get it from if not form avon ?

For your eyes, I would suggest Almay Intense-i-color for hazel eyes. And if your pale-go with a translucent power foundation. For your acne--use a liquid cover up if you need to, but only on the spots. Match with a second lightly tanned powder to finish. Going for the night look? Add a peachy/rose blush lightly in upward strokes on your cheek bone!!
IF YOUR TAN: do the same with darker second powders and cover ups. Use a rose or cherry blush, but only a small amount!

For your eyes, I would suggest Almay Intense-i-color for hazel eyes. And if your pale-go with a translucent power foundation. For your acne--use a liquid cover up if you need to, but only on the spots. Match with a second lightly tanned powder to finish. Going for the night look? Add a peachy/rose blush lightly in upward strokes on your cheek bone!!
IF YOUR TAN: do the same with darker second powders and cover ups. Use a rose or cherry blush, but only a small amount!
use a pearl black mascara and eyeliner if nessary to darken your look
a light pink lip gloss will never go wrong!

If you try and bleach your hair yourself, you could ruin your hair, cause breakage, and/or end up with orange highlights by not lifting enough pigment out of the strands. Hello, I am a hairdresser. I can't see your hair so I can't tell you what color to get, but I have a solution. Clairol has a line called Jazzing. It is in a small pink bottle and it is deposit only. This is something that you can do at home and you can't mess it up. It comes in an array of colors and the color shown on the bottle is what it will look like on pre-lightened hair such as yours. If you can't find this brand, you should be able to use another brand that is the same product. I hope this helps and this link is a picture of the product.

get a glaze at the salon. redken is the best. it is a semipermanent translucent color that adds tone (to darken in your case) your hair. it is not damaging to the hair, and we use it all the time after a highlight to get the correct tone.
it should fade somewhat in a few weeks...
You're going to have to go back to the salon and ask her to put in some lowlights. That is really the only way to fix this.

She definitely had new highlights around the time of the Pope visit, I remember noticing them in a picture. They weren't sun streaks, they were definitely man-made highlights. So my guess is she probably gets them done every month to 6 weeks.

It probably goes from red to blonde since blonde has the least pigment, but you shouldn't do it yourself if you don't want it to get messed up.
You really dont need to do this yourself. But, if you are going to I would go to a beauty supply store and ask the person working there what you should use. If your hair is natural black-it will take a lot to lift it to blonde. It does go in steps of color-red, orange, yellow then blonde. If you dont use the correct amount of developer or leave it on long enough it wont lift enough-you could turn out with orange hair! You may have to apply the bleach twice to get the disired look of blonde. Which can be damaging to the hair.
As a liscense cosmetologist I would recomend you go to a salon.

Please, please, please go to a pro!

i have black hair and would NEVER high light it. it won't look very good. black hair is fantastic to have. just use hair gloss. if you have deep black hair all you need is a good shine to it. it will look like doll hair. very silky and shiney is the best thing for black hair. other colors they can highlight and look okay, but really, you'll end up looking like the bride of frankenstein. seriously, it's a skunky kind of contrast.

well heres the problem. if you have black hair you would have to go 2 to 3 steps. when you highlight your hair you should leave it on at least 30 minutes then rinse it out but it probably will not be the color you want so you would have to go over that color again. trust me , my natural hair color is black. i did it plenty of times. i recommend you to go to a hair stylist if you dont want to have to keep on doing the process over and over again. your hair will be damage.
Bleach will turn your black hair YELLOW. Have a professional do it for you so it won't go all yellow on you.

I just did this the other day and have a few times and my hair is still gorgeous. Use an herbal essences bleaching kit (the lightest one which is like XL0 I think). Its easy on your hair which is good. After that you will definitly need to get another box dye (preferably a shade of ash blonde which will get rid of any orange (the brown in your hair now will look a tad orange when bleached) I usually get colorsilk in ultra light ash blonde or light ash blonde-its really inexpensive and easy on your hair, but you can really choose any brand). Try to wait like a day between the bleaching and the blonde dye. If its too light for you just get a low light kit and put them in to tone it down. Just a forewarning-for a couple days your hair will seem dry and you may worry its ';ruined'; but after a day or two and a couple shampoos your hair should be back and as good as new! Good luck and have fun being blonde!
