Now my roots have grown out and I want to color it myself at home. The problem is, with my highlights, I am not sure I can do a color myself without butchering my hair. can anyone suggest an at-home color product for my color hair with my color highlights that won't ruin my hair? I want to try to match up my natural color, possibly medium brown, but I would like my highlights covered also. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks!I have dark brown hair and three months ago I had blonde/gold highlights put in.?
Yes, you can get any colour that is as close to yours and it will cover up pretty well.
There is a problem in that your bleached hairs do not have much of a colour base, as do the rest of your darker hair, so you may find that you have a slightly lighter colour showing in those hairs. That is okay, since hair is not all one solid colour.
Sometimes, you may get an off-shade showing if you used an ash for example, since those hairs don't have the gold/red base necessary. In either of these cases, you should apply a colour filler to give you the base you need. They come in a variety of shades.
If you don't want the bother of having ';roots';, you may want to investigate the semi-permanent colours. They are not as deep as some of the others, but they don't damage your hair as much. They also will come off quicker since they are only a coating and will wear away every time you shampoo your hair. A permanent tint will actually penetrate into the hair and permanently chemically change it. A semi- permanent colour only adds some colour molecules to what is already there. As it fades, you can apply another colour, or even change to another shade; you can never go lighter than the colour already on the hair.
If the highlights had been done properly in the first place, you would not have ';roots';. They should be applied in such a way that you do not have that ';line'; showing as they grow out. But most girls don't get that. If you wanted, there is a way to only have a few more very fine streaks done in the root area to blend them in, but it's rather more complicated to do. The best thing at this point is to have a consultation with a qualified professional hair colourist. Explain that you want to grow out the streaks, and that you may want to go darker again. They will be able to see your hair, and tell you some options available to you, and how to get them. You have a lot of questions and need to have them answered before you do something else that is more difficult to remove or cover up.I have dark brown hair and three months ago I had blonde/gold highlights put in.?
if you want to cover your highlights up, then i was suggest getting something called Hair Filler to put on your hair before you color it back to your natural color.
you can get this at a beauty supply store like Sally's.
When you lighten and bleach your hair, you are taking all of the pigment out of it..so putting hair filler on your hair will add pigments back into your hair, because hair dye does not. The only thing hair dye does it coat the outside of your hair cuticle.
if you don't use hair filler, then when you hair color fades you will be able to see your highlights again,
Don't use any box dye that you buy from like walmart or target (like loriel, or revlon) that stuff is horrible for your hair.
i was suggest getting some hair color from a beauty supply store like Sally's as well.
anything will work, the more you spent the longer it lasts usually and it will cover your highlights, but when the color starts to fade, your highlights will show some i have dont exactly that to my hair. it looks good lol
